Topa Properties, Ltd., formerly
known as, Topa Equities, (VI), Ltd., was founded in 1980
by John Anderson, Sr., Chairman of Los Angeles-based
parent company, Topa Equities, Ltd. John Anderson is a
successful businessman, lawyer, and principal benefactor
of the prestigious Anderson School of Management at UCLA
. Through a series of acquisitions of beverage and
duty-free wholesaling operations, Mr. Anderson built a
sizable portfolio of real property holdings in the
Virgin Islands between 1980 and 1983. These acquisitions
became the basis for establishing Topa Equities, (VI),
Ltd. as the holding and management company for the real
estate portfolio.
Topa Properties, Ltd. continued to
acquire property in the Virgin Islands after 1983 with
several acquisitions focusing on downtown Charlotte
Amalie, St. Thomas and Christiansted, St. Croix
commercial retail properties. In 2001, Topa purchased
its first St. John property, the prestigious Mongoose
Junction II building located in the heart of Cruz Bay.
The most recent acquisition took place in late 2003 with
the purchase of Historic Bakery Square in Charlotte
Amalie, a cluster of old Danish buildings surrounding a
central courtyard that dates back to the early 1800’s.
Topa is widely considered to be the
preeminent commercial landlord in the Virgin Islands. We
